Overall a super place to have a holiday. The location overlooking the park and river and views to the Abbey are wonderful. The house is partially built into the rock face, so some of the bedrooms are at the back making them nice and cool in the heat.

Brian provides a great deal of info and assistance and it was really useful referring to his blue folder – we found places we otherwise might have missed. The house is clean and tidy and comfortable, and the garden next to the river is a real bonus. We would happily stay here again.

Dear Helen & Julian, thank you for taking the time to review Maisonbrantome and we are very happy you all had a great time. We hope to see you sometime in the future. Kind Regards Jill et Brian

The host Brian was very helpful from start to finish and easy to contact by email, mobile and WhatsApp. His information files on the house and locality were the most comprehensive that the 6 of us had seen in our combined 200+ years of self catering holidays! The house is mainly built in a cave so beautifully cool even if it was 40’ C outside. The garden by the river was secluded and shaded and very relaxing to sit in. Brantôme is a beautiful town to visit with lots to do: canoeing down the river, cycling, Chateaus to visit and even river jousting competitions! Would certainly visit again.

Party: 2 Adults with older children .

We had a wonderful week staying in MaisonBrantome which is perfectly placed in this delightful town. We enjoyed the kayaking, pic-nicing in the park opposite, the weekly markets and water jousting! We also took the opportunity to visit Lascaux which was brilliant – just over an hours drive. We were a bit sad that the bikes were not available for our stay, but everything is within walking distance. Jill & Brian (and local neighbours) were extremely helpful when we had issues with our car not starting. We would recommend MaisonBrantome highly to everyone.

This is the third time we have stayed in this lovely house and once again it gave us everything we could wish for and more. It is comfortable and well equipped but its biggest plus is the location. It is so nice to be able to walk into town and not have use the car. We enjoyed meals in several of the many restaurants in town and all of them in walking distance. The extreme temperatures during our visit were not a problem because as the house is built into the cave it is lovely and cool when we needed to get out of the sun. We also made use of the balcony which gave us shelter from the sun and terrific views over the park and river. The house is also well placed for some lovely walks through woodland and country side , easy to get to as the pathway is just a hundred yards along the road from the front door. Brian and Jill are always on hand if we need them and have given us good advice and great recommendations for days out. We love Brantome and Maison Brantome is the perfect place to stay and enjoy this wonderful town. Thank you Brian and Jill, we will be back!!

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday.

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. Your house is just perfect, the pictures online do not do it justice, it was a real home from home. The house has everything you could possibly need, a lot of thought has gone into it and the information booklets. We loved how spacious the house was and having the garden and balcony gave us plenty of outdoor space to relax day and night. The beds were so comfy which is a rarity. We are so glad we chose the house and Brantome as a base, it truly is stunning with so much to see and do with an array of reasonably priced shops and plenty of great restaurants from traditional to pizza and burgers. We had a hire car and travelled around but it was so nice to get back to Brantome, we chose well and we would definitely stay again. The attention we were given from booking right through to our stay was second to none with lots of information given and any question answered. Thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding when we had to change our dates (twice) very much appreciated, fantastic service from start to finish. You really do go above and beyond. We would highly recommended travelling about 25 minutes to atable in Cherval for a meal (Fri-Sun – www.atablerestaurant.com) for excellent quality food (as seen on A New Life in the Sun) you won’t be disappointed. I have to say that I haven’t had such service before, the owners Jill & Brian feel like friends, usually once you book accommodation you don’t hear from anyone. Thank you so much for everything both, we will be back.

Many thanks.

We had a fabulous stay, our second to Maisonbrantome. Everything was spotless and we noticed a few additions since our last visit. The weather was mixed but this didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves. We visited the water park again with the children and stayed for the day.

Definitely 5 stars again. The children loved the area and we will return again to Maisonbrantome either with the family or just us two having time out together.

We noticed the Tuesday farmers market had recently stopped, not sure if it will start up again.  Carrefour had moved to the ring-road with a larger store and fuel station. Aldi is on the way to this store and is good value too. The Friday market is still on every week. We also visited the local caves and the tour was fascinating, remember to take a jumper or alike as its rather chilly done there.

As last time, I was so relaxed following our stay.

Great House – Great Location

Party: 2 Adults

Dear Brian,
Many thanks for allowing us to stay in your fabulous holiday home, for the lovely welcome gift and all the advice.

We had a great time, the house itself has bags of space and is extremely well equipped. The garden was perfect for soaking up the morning sunshine and eating breakfast/lunch. Although a bit chilly in the evening to sit out for dinner (it being September). The BBQ was great – we used it pretty much every night.

After dinner our favourite place to sit out was the balcony, to enjoy a glass or two of wine and read a book.

The town itself is picture postcard, there are plenty of places to eat and buy supplies. We only needed to visit the out of town Carrefour at the start of our stay. The Friday market was also great for picking up great local produce.

A must do, if you’re feeling fit enough, is the Canoe trip to Bourdeille. Great fun, loads of wildlife to see and very tranquil (provided you can find a little space between the other canoes on the river at the same time).

Other things worth a mentioning are the Grotte de Villars to see the pre-historic cave paintings and a trip to one of the large swimming lakes (as the sea is so very far away) – we went to Etang La Jemaye.

For all those fishermen/women out there – the River Dronne has every species of fish that you could think of (and most to specimen sizes too..).

Best Regards,

Andy & Liz

Hi Brian and Jill,

Just a quick note to say thank you for the wine and bread and to get us started! The information packs were very useful too, a highlight for us was the velorail where you can pedal along disused railways – definitely worth recommending to families who might be staying.

We had a wonderful time, the house was fantastic and the kids loved being tucked away at the back.

We’d definitely recommend your house to others

Morning Brian

Just a quick message to say that we arrived safely at your beautiful home on Saturday afternoon. The welcome wine & cheese was delightful – thank you!  The girls squealed with excitement as they walked around discovering each room and are in love with their bedroom as are we with ours. You’re pictures don’t do this place justice! Brantôme is such a wonderful town and we have been very busy discovering it!

We are taking good care of you’re home and your blue book should be renamed the blue bible!

Many thanks for the update, we were a bit too exhausted from the lake to attempt seeing the police horses and decided on relaxing on the veranda.

Thanks again

My family and I were delighted with our recent visit to this house and Brantome. We travelled with 2 young children (5 & 9) and they were super excited when we arrived to this lovely town house. My 9 year old even felt the need to comment on how ridiculously comfortable her bed was! as did we all! We drove there with our own car (and parked with no problem at all right outside the Gite) and were then able to visit lots of local attractions and lakes with ease, retreating to a comfortable home at the end of a busy day. We chose mainly to cook our own meals rather than to eat out which worked out fabulously in the well equipped kitchen. On the occasions that we did eat out the local food was lovely, fresh and reasonable. The town itself is only a 5 minute walk away with a boulangerie and spar so you never need to go without supplies since it shuts at a very reasonable 7.30pm, even on a Sunday! Brantome itself is so family friendly and pretty, with lots of local treats in store, we managed to do an 8km canoe trip (Brantome canoes) with both children this was my personal highlight since the route was so pretty. There is also a lovely ice-cream/creperie shop which we visited most evenings after dinner! My eldest isn’t very keen on the sea but there are lots of local lakes/rivers to swim in that have sandy beaches with warm, clear and shallow waters – perfect! A great place to visit is the Velorail in Périgord Vert (30mins drive). We enjoyed a wonderful little pedal power rail journey with the children, a fab way to see the scenery and a bit of fun! you do need to call ahead just to reserve a slot. However, the hosts have an excellent book with all the information you might need for days out, eating, lakes, shopping etc so you will have enough information to find what you need.

The house is a great size and was immaculately clean
Overall rating   ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Party type: 2 adults 2 children 15 & 9

For the last 4 or 5 years my family and I have camped when visiting France so this was our chance to have a change and stay in a house rather than under canvas.

And what a house it is. When we arrived it was so nice just to be able to get the bags out of the car. The welcome pack is a great idea and a good introduction to life in France.

The house is a great size and was immaculately clean when we arrived which always starts the holiday off well. We had a quick explore with people picking what bedrooms they were going to sleep in. As per the description the master bedroom is huge with lots of room. The bed is really comfy and I did enjoy some of the best night sleeps I had had for a long time.

With the garden across the road it afforded us the opportunity to watch the caneoists go past having first negotiated the wier where people would gather on the bridge over looking it just to watch their efforts getting over it.

Brantomè itself is a lovely place and I defy anyone to go hungry there. They have a lot of restaurants ranging from top end Michelin rated to a whole in the wall selling kebabs etc. For those on a self catering holiday there is a Carrefour about 5 mins drive away. It is not the biggest Carrefour I have seen but it has everything you would need. It was fascinating to see how some of the shops , restaurants and the house for that matter have been built into the rocks. This helped keep them lovely and cool at the height of the temperatures.

You can use brantomè as your base because there is so much to do in the area. Most of the places that we visited were no more than 30 mins away and the visit to the caves and police horses is a must. Perigueux is a must and the prices are reasonable considering it is a bit of a tourist trap.

If swimming is your thing then there is a waterpark only about an hour away and there is a fresh water lake 30 mins away with its own Sandy beach and there are lifeguards in attendance.

I couldn’t finish this review off without mentioning how helpful Brian and Jill the landlords are. We had a slight problem and needed to ship some stuff back to the UK. Brian helped us all the way even though he was in the UK and after a couple of problems which Brian and his friends helped sort we got our stuff. Brian really did go that extra mile and kept in touch all the time. A star.

All in all a great place to stay and would highly recommend it.

Regards
Ian

We had a lovely holiday in Brantome and the house is beautiful. The bedrooms are cool even in the hot weather and the garden over the road is perfect for eating meals and relaxing. We particularly enjoyed canoeing on La Dronne and visiting the local caves to see the cave art. We ate out a few times in Brantôme and the restaurants are lovely. We also made good use of the fully equipped kitchen to prepare our own meals. Our children are 7 and 9 and the house worked perfectly for us but due to the road between the house and garden and low windows etc it may not suit families with very small children (although gates and stair gates are provided).

Many thanks Jill & Brian, we really enjoyed this break. Being out of season it was quiet, exactly what we needed from our normal busy schedule. We didn’t travel far as we wanted to just relax and the house provided this in abundance. We were even lucky enough to have some good weather too for gentle walks and cycling.  Even at this time of the year the views from the garden were just something. Although some of the seasonal restaurants had closed and others on a more limited opening times we still had a great time as the facilities of the house provided what we needed and when a bit chilly a couple of evenings the heating worked well. We visited – old Perigueux,  Sarlat la Canada,  and Chalus where Richard the Lion-heart met his end!   A lovely break – again thanks and we would definitely recommend the house.

Just a quick thank you for allowing us to stay in your amazing French home in Brantome.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week there even if we had rain a few mornings!  The sun came out every day so we were happy.  What a beautiful town!

My wife said the towels though clean were a bad colour so she rewashed them to bright white. I found the fact that both the lav seats would not stay in the upright position sometimes a problem but otherwise we had a great holiday and the proximity to the town is a great bonus. Hi John, Many thanks for the review we take them all seriously. The linen is washed every week but I guess one two needed that extra session which is unusual. It’s a pity you didn’t contact us and we could have rectified this immediately for you. Sorry we cannot do anything about French toilets or their ways. The house is on the edge of Brantome with associated parking in the (bat) cave. It stayed cool, even on hot days, which was a blessing. The garden caught the sun and was a very pleasant place to enjoy the glorious weather as well as watching passing canoes.
The master bedroom looks out onto the river but is two twin beds pushed together rather than a double; hence four stars rather than five. Kitchen is well appointed; lots of space, especially for just two of us and fantastic location.

Our Response

Thank you for your lovely review and we’re very happy you had a great time. The beds were as advertised and if you join us again let us know in advance and we’ll make the master into a double. We look forward to your return next time with the family. Jill and Brian

The descriptions and photos of this property are very accurate and the owners are very helpful and have provided a wealth of additional information. Highlights for us were the terrace, balcony and spacious accommodation. The town is just gorgeous and it’s lovely to be able to just saunter in whenever you like. As has mentioned before, a lot of drivers don’t keep to the 20kph speed limit so something to bear in mind. However, most times of the days it’s pretty quiet and we enjoyed having plenty of activity to watch from the terrace. All in all a fabulous stay in a well-loved home. With children, a visit to Saint Estephe is a must. Beautiful lakeside facilities (plenty of shade plus manmade beach) and all free (even kayak hire!). An easy 30 min drive from the property.

Wow ! What a place. The house was absolutely spotless, and ample space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We particularly liked the balcony area and the upstairs lounge, perfect for relaxing with a bottle of wine in the evening. Loads of information also in the blue book about places to visit. The Wii was also well used, although we did have a slight issue with the DVD player as we tried it twice and it crashed. The house was very cool even on hot days. Brantome itself is simply stunning, from the river to the abbey with the tower which you can see from the house. The pictures don’t do it justice, also everything is walkable you could spend a week here and not get in your car. We particularly liked walking down into the town to get croissants and bread in the morning. We spent a day at Lake Jemaye which was recommended in the blue book, which has it’s own beach and we hired canoes (free for 30 minutes). I thought we would miss not having access to a swimming pool but we really didn’t there was so much to do. We travelled for 3 hours to Gouffre de Padirac, a huge cave system with an underground boat ride which I had visited as a teenager, it was superb. Also being keen canoeists we hired 2 double canoes and paddled down to Bourdeilles which took about 3 hours, involving a voluntary capsize to cool off in the river. Can’t fault the house or the location, will definitely revisit the Dordogne again.

 Wow, what a location!

Just a couple of minutes walk along the river from the historic abbey and Hotel De Ville sits Maison Brantome. And it sits in a idyllic setting, nestling in the cave to keep it cooler than other houses.

Beautifully clean and tidy, and ready for action! To be fair, the pictures we saw before booking were great, but don’t do it justice!

All the useful information you need on arrival is easy to find, superbly benefiting from everything you need that you have not brought with you, cooking facilities etc etc and a real home from home….even if it’s wet there is a Nintendo Wii! Not that we saw anything like rain, hardly any clouds to be honest!

So whilst you will find everything you need in the house, including wifi access for the kids, or bigger kids, get out of the house, on the bikes there for your use, or on your feet and explore the beauty of Brantome….we took loads of pictures and have fantastic memories.

Everywhere has one failing…..this place….you won’t want to leave the view or the setting.

The town itself has lots of reasonably prices restaurants, and better quality ones for those splashing out….or you can splash about a bit more and hire canoes and tackle the local weirs, many passing Maison Brantome’s little haven of sunbathing and relaxing next to the river.

Lovely, lovely lovely relaxing week in the sunshine and we will be back, I hope.

Book it, you will not be disappointed!

The view from your little “garden” is imprinted on our minds. It is such a beautiful sight, looking at the changing colours and textures of the river, the ancient belfry, the simple but elegant bridge, and the people wandering along the water’s edge with their dogs. And the bird life! We live deep in the country, about 12 kms from the nearest town, with many birds. . . but I have never heard such birdsong as in Brantôme. The pealing of the bells was the icing on the cake.

Your kitchen was really well set up, and we enjoyed cooking many meals. The little market store had excellent meats to cook, as well as special cheeses, and fresh fruit and vegetables. We were lucky to hit strawberry and asparagus season. May I make a suggestion for the kitchen? We always have tea every afternoon at home, and the first afternoon I couldn’t find a teapot, nor a creamer for the milk. I presumed that since the kitchen was set up by a Brit, these would be essential!

We did take a brief trip to Bourdeilles. It is postcard beautiful, but oddly empty. We were there at around 10 a.m. and saw only about a half dozen people the whole time we were wandering through the village. We couldn’t find a café to have our daily café crème; we eventually found a bakery and got the best baguette on the trip.

Lunch at Charbonell’s was fantastic, although we don’t think we can ever eat four courses again. That would have been doable, but adding three amuses bouches to the list was over the top. However, every dish was wonderful, and I think our dessert was the best I have ever had. We ate in the rest of the time, but one morning had a decent, inexpensive lunch at le Coligny. We tried to eat at Bar Marche to have the salad you recommended, but could never be there at the right time. So le Coligny was open at the right time, late morning, and that’s why we chose it. We attended the Friday market, although didn’t buy anything because we were trying to empty the fridge before we left. But the vast array of beautiful vegetables was fabulous to see, as was all that wine and pâte de canard/f’oie. We started eating the latter in Bilbao at the start of our trip, and continued periodically until the last lunch the day before we left. We cannot bring it home, as Canada Customs doesn’t allow it.
Thank you for laying in for us all those wonderful foods and the bottle of wine. It helped to get us started, and was very thoughtful.

Now I have to reduce the hundred-odd photos I took of the view from Maison Brantôme to just a few perfect ones for my photo album slide show I’m about to start on.

Thanks for all the efforts you’ve made on our behalf, and for the advice and friendly chats.

Enjoy your summer, and all the best for the coming year.

Kindest regards,
Gail and Patrick

We arrived for a few days in the Dordogne and Brantome was fabulous. Although early May we had sunshine but the mornings were still chilly so a jumper was required. When the sun came out during the day we had temperatures between 18-24. The house was very clean, spacious and warm. Very good value for its size and amenities. We visited Perigueux, Bourdeilles and eat at the Saint Sicaire besides the river which was reasonably priced. If you book or get there a bit early you can have a table by the river. Other than that we relaxed in the garden and took some well earned rest. Recommended and such a great area.

When we arrived we were pleasantly happy as the place was had all the modern facilities, immaculate, very well supplied with everything we needed and lovely and warm inside with the central heating during the cool periods of the day and evening. It’s so much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The main bedroom we used was huge. One test we always make is how clean the oven is, it was spotless. Most of the local facilities and shops were opening up for the season. Parking was easy in the large cave which was dry and clean. Restaurant wise we used the Le Bistot Saint Pierre which is at the top of Victor Hugo, the Entrecote was excellent, so tasty other than that we eat in. Exceptional value. Look forward to coming back. Took us a while to find house, our sat nav was convinced it was on the other side of the river !! We approached it through the cobbled streets through the town with the river to the left and found the house on the right. It had a large drive and parked within the cave. This cave was an amazing site in itself and we found many people wandering up to have a look. The house was lovely and cool, even on the hottest days. I would suggest extra layers at night. There is a small road between the house and the garden. We used the garden every day for all meals and relaxing. I was not expecting the area to be so beautiful. The views from the house and garden are wonderful. On the other side of the river was a park which hosted markets and small festivals. There was always so much to watch from the garden. Brantome was an amazing town. Lots of shops and restaurants. So much history to see. We kayaked a couple of times using the company in Brantome. This is definitely worth it, do try and book up as soon as you arrive as it can get busy in August. The journey is not difficult if you take a double or family kayak. Brian the owner was very helpful. He checked everything was ok and left a very helpful guide book about the house and area. Because of the nature of the house being built within the cave walls you do need to read all the information. Our family had a wonderful week in the house and would definitely like to stay again in the near future.

Highly recommended and a definite 5 stars for everything

This was our 3rd visit to Maisonbrantome and the first with the children ( 5 and 7 year olds)
We arrived to a cool 33 degrees and though that was warm, the wine in the welcome pack was welcome as we relaxed in the safe and cosy garden overlooking the river. In fact we spent a lot of time in the garden relaxing and having our meals, and enjoying the very special views.

There had been many changes and new furniture since our last visit and the owners had clearly upgraded the property to ensure we had a comfortable property with good facilities. The wifi for my husband was appreciated.

As the week progressed it became very hot indeed but the coolness of the house was so welcoming at a constant 22-24 degrees. The main bedroom was large, clean and well furnished as was all the house. Parking in the cave meant we didn’t have sweltering hot cars to get into when we went out exploring.

There was plenty to do for the children and the crazy golf in the park was a great success.

We visited St Jean de Cole, Bourdeilles and Perigueux old town and the old Arena was something else, converted to a beautiful garden and pool. Our favourite eating places were Charbonnel in Brantome, Restaurant de Promenade and Les Minestrels in Bourdeilles. Canoeing around the town, and another longer canoe trip to Bourdeilles is a must for all the family.

A lovely memorable holiday thank you Jill & Brian

We stayed here for 2 weeks. We loved Brantome and this house was perfect for us. We needed a lot of green space for our son to kick a soccer ball and the large park in town was the final feature of this property that sealed the deal. The house had plenty of room for us. The cave helped keep it cool. Since it’s right on the road it was a very short walk into the amazing town full of restaurants. We loved that there was a church in town and attractions such as the abbey, bell tower and caves. We visited nearby attractions too and Brian and Jill have plenty of brochures about these. The cars drive too fast past the house which was shocking. We learned quickly the French drive very fast! That was our only frustration but there isn’t much traffic. We looked for a very long time for the perfect French town for our stay in Brantome was it!

Review

Beautiful house, beautiful location. No need to drive, restaurants, shops, cafes all in easy walking distance. The house is fully equipped and extremely clean. Maintained to a very high standard. Owner was available if there were any problems. Plenty of car parking in the cave next to the house. Love the balcony, what a view of Brantome to wake upto. Great house for family holidays, house exactly as described in description. Highly recommended.

IDYLLIC  5/5 stars

La Maison Brantome was an absolute delight! Everything about the house suited our needs perfectly.

As a family of 5 with 2 teens and 1 youth the 3 bedrooms each had ample space.

With two living areas to choose from, delightful riverside garden, well equipt kitchen with accessories that looked brand new (including the oven which was spotless), and a superb balcony to watch the world go by.

Additionally the Sky TV and Wii kept the kids entertained in the late afternoon after a day out.

The house, set into the cave, was kept beautifully cool when temperatures outside soared.

We spent a couple of glorious days at Grand Etang Saint Estephe which is a lake with a wonderful beach and free canoeing which was a bonus, did a day canoeing from Brantome with Brantome Canoe, watched the jousting whilst enjoying dinner at La Guingette and explored the caves at the back of The Abbey.

A week wasn’t really long enough to explore the vast beauty of the area so we will have to revisit at a later date!! An idyllic break, thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Brian and Jill for entrusting us with your unique property.

Thank you ‘L’ for your review, we are pleased our high ‘standard’ met with your approval and you had a fabulous holiday. Do stay with us again to visit Brantome and the area sometime in the future.

The photos do not do it justice, the property is bigger and even better than it looks. The property is ideally placed to walk into the town which we enjoyed as it enabled us to enjoy family evenings out and not have to worry about driving or other transport home!

The property is a great size, was well equipped and had a great outlook from the balcony and master bedroom, ideal for our family to be able go off in different directions if needed (teenagers!!) Thanks again for a great holiday

Thanks again for a great holiday

“Paradise in the Perigord”

5/5 stars

We rented maisonbrantome for 10 days in June and had a wonderful time. We also found the house in perfect condition. Everything worked perfectly and the owner was there to greet us, give us a private orientation and see that our needs (and questions) were addressed. And for any lingering (or forgotten) details, he has created a “users manual” to be sure your stay goes without a hitch. The area is a hidden jewel in the Perigord. With birds waking you with their songs, fishermen to entertain you at breakfast on the bank of the river and welcoming businesses in the town that is a 5 minute walk, you have everything to create an unforgettable experience.

Beautiful family house and spotless.

5/5 stars

Hi Jill &  Brian,   Thank you for letting me stay at your house in France.

I would thoroughly recommend anyone that appreciates beautiful scenery to stay there. The house would be fantastic for a family holiday. It has all the facilities that you need, also two bathrooms. The main bedroom was very comfortable and so light and airy with wonderful views of the old monastery, weir and river. There are also two other bedrooms. As well as a living room on the ground floor there is one on the top floor with a covered balcony so if you are unlucky to have any rain you can sit outside and enjoy the views.

There is also a garden on the river bank so if you like to cook your own food in the lovely kitchen you can eat outside by the river.

If you prefer to go out to eat or have coffee there are several restaurants to choose from just a short stroll from the house to the village. There is also a market.

A short walk into the village you can find boats and canoes to hire.

The house is also only a short drive to a number of beautiful villages, and Perigueux.

Beautiful Place Beautiful property

5/5 stars

A beautiful property and beautiful town, we came over for the last week of May with our 3 young children. we all couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was! the property was lovely, fresh, clean, spacious and cleaned to a very high standard! with having a 3 year old boy the stair gates came in very handy. my older children loved that you had satellite which meant of a late evening they could wind down with their favourite programs. the owners had left a folder and leaflets and useful information which came in very handy and was a bonus to have. we all enjoyed breakfast in the garden and sometimes evening as well. we all loved the view. stunning at night and day! there was a little park just across the river which was very clean and tidy and we also played a little mini golf with the children which had a place where we could enjoy nibbles, drinks and main meal. ( the man who owns this was very happy and interactive with us and the children ) 1st class service!!! the town was gorgeous and has some lovely little shops which we all enjoyed looking around, the market also was lively and the people are very helpful and friendly.

whilst on our stay we visited a water park ( quercyland ) although this was an hour and a half away it was a great day out for all. costing us 9 euros each from 11-8. we tried visiting a few other places but do advice calling before setting off as we found we were a few days too early for the season which meant a bit of traveling just to find a lot of things were closed. we had 2 boat trips while in brantome which was lovely as one of them tells you the history of the town. my partner and father took my eldest 2 children out on a 4 hour canoe trip down the river at 30 euros for a canoe. I must say the children and adults loved it! they all wanted to go again. i would highly recommend the property, we have other family interested in this holiday as they have seen the pictures of the house and and surrounding places to visit and think its lovely too.

Maisonbrantome   5/5 stars

This was a return family visit for us following our last time as a couple. The weather was good with just one 20 min period of rain during our stay.

The place again was absolutely spotless and many items had been replaced, updated or added since our last visit, clearly the owners wished us to have a lovely experience.

We arrived in very good time and took the children in to the park to unwind following the long drive whilst others unpacked. The property was warm and comforting, a nice welcome bottle, tea, coffee, milk, some jams, bread and cheese ensured we were off to a good start until we went shopping.

This time we slept in the ground floor bedroom with ensuite, again very quiet and comfortable. In fact we didn’t have any sleeping issues all week.

There was plenty of hot water for the 7 of us and my wife really enjoyed the ground floor shower. We did respect the owners wishes due to the building design and ran the Dehumidifier which presented no problems.

There were plenty of books, games and things to do and we used the upper lounge in the evening. As it was naturally a different climate and the ground floor lounge was great when coming In from the hot weather. The nice touches of a UK French adaptor in each room was appreciated too.

We visited Perigueux cathedral which had a medieval event which of course we got roped into and had great fun. The videos and photos are so much fun to watch and replay our memories. Plus we found a great waterpark for only 9E each, about an hour plus from Brantome.

We fished from the garden and had some luck or was it skill? canoed to Bourdeilles which took about 4 hours with the children, it was so much fun and very safe, plus we had a boat ride together up river. The little childrens boats were 15 mins for 3 1/2 Euro, a bargain. The water wasn’t very deep either so we felt comfortable that the children could have a go.

The boules and children’s area in the park was used quiet a bit and the little snack bar adjacent was very good value and so friendly.

Our grown up children and the grand children wish to return again but not before the two of us return on our own later this year to maisonbrantome. We’ve found a little gem.

The gite is such good value for the size, cleanliness, condition and equally important location. We cannot rate our experience high enough, a fab u lous week thank you for putting so much effort to making us happy. We even had a query when out travelling looking for a certain place, called the owner and they immediately text back some info to help.

We choose to cook most evenings and the kitchen was well equipped. Then play family games.

One thing we didn’t do, which was an error on our behalf and that was not to read, the owners guest website information which is accessed via passcode and which was emailed to us before we left the UK.. With the effort, detail and comprehensive information we can see why this was done and why we should have read it to save our valuable holiday time and pre planning. So we would recommend you do so. The house book is brilliant , so much information to make life relaxed.

When visiting Bourdeilles which is about 10 mins away, plus loading time f,or the children! We visited one of the recommended restaurants in the house book. Les Minstrels, very good value, friendly and great location opposite the chateaux castellations.

We can’t wait to return and will look for a longer return stay with the family next year.

Absolutely lovely quaint and we’ll equipped house

4/5 stars

Brantome is an absolutely lovely village and an ideal location for good family time. There are many excellent good value restaurants and lots to do – canoeing was marvellous.

We stayed at the home of Brian & Jill Wells, a delightful couple who provided lots of information of the local area, restaurants and the activities. The very quaint house which is well modernised makes it very comfortable. It has a lovely garden area just across the road and next to the river, an ideal place to relax. The house is well furnished – we didn’t need for anything, very clean and many of the items like towels and bed linen looked new. The house is only a few minutes walk to the village. There are many lovely walks and the tourist office were very helpful.

We stayed for a week and really enjoyed ourselves. We plan to rebook for next year and would recommend MaisonBrantome to anyone – be it with a family or not.

Quiet, very relaxing and highly recommended

5/5 stars

Dear Mr Wells,

I am writing to let you know our review of our stay in your French property at Maisonbrantome.

Firstly thank you for such a wonderful holiday. We have never had such a relaxing and fulfilling holiday  and rate the complete property and holiday as 5 stars; and it was also very good value for the size and location. My wife and I found the whole ambience amazing. Of course the fact the weather was fantastic also helped.

We wondered what the house would be like being by the river and with the rear of the house backing in to the rock. “Wow” was our immediate thoughts when we walked in. It has been renovated to a good standard with modern facilities and was absolutely spotless. The bedroom we chose to sleep in turned out to be the rear cave bedroom and the room was a good size and very quiet.  The large master front bedroom had double aspect windows and was spotless, 3m beamed ceilings, bright, the beds were comfortable. It was the most restful time and holiday we have had for years. Loved the shutters. The main front bedroom was huge as was the top lounge which has a great balcony for relaxing. The kitchen, ground floor bedroom and lounge worked well for our needs too during the day and we think we may try out the ground floor bedroom with en-suite when we arrive next time. We did relax just watching the birds, river, fish and just looking at the park across the river, in fact we had breakfast and snacks out there too, amazing for the end of September early October.

Brantome was surprisingly quiet and very romantic, we loved it and the surrounding tourist villages. The holiday was so relaxing  we have booked two more separate weeks to come back to the house  with different friends, family and the children. The 2 supplied bicycles were a nice touch and we enjoyed playing boules in the park.

Within in couple of minutes we could walk in to the town, which I have to say seems to have  multiple restaurants for every day of the week. Good value, good choice of menus.  The town was not spoilt by any new buildings, and has a lot of history.  We are looking forward to doing some fishing, visiting the Troglodyte tour next time, and another boat trip is on the cards.

We are really looking forward to our two return holidays and have highly recommended it to all our friends.

Kind Regards
